Over the past few months Purchase firefighters have been conducting training in an acquired structure. Training in real buildings provide extremely valuable experience for firefighters. Fortunately, firefighters have been able to practice forceable entry, standpipe evolutions, hose line stretching, search evolutions, and FAST scenarios. Thank you to our mutual aide partners for training with us and taking advantage of a great opportunity. Furthermore, senior members of the Purchase Fire Department took time to share their knowledge of the Stouffer’s Inn Fire, which occurred at this location on December 4th, 1980. The Stouffer’s Inn Fire is the deadliest fire in Westchester County History; claiming the lives of 26 people. The fire is credited with changing building and fire codes across the country. Senior members of the department were able to share their experiences and lessons learned with the younger generations. A strong remember of the evolution of the fire service. |
