On Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 2:27 PM, the West Harrison and Purchase Fire Departments were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 37 Old Lyme Road, off of Anderson Hill Road. While units were responding, Harrison Police reported that children were home, but it was unknown if they were still inside. Upon arrival, Car 2411 observed heavy smoke from the first floor and requested that 60 Control transmit a 10-75 (Working Fire) assignment. The homeowner on the scene stated that all occupants were out of the house. Car 2411 gave an initial size up of a two-story wood frame dwelling, approximately 40' x 60', with fire on the first floor. Engine 238 connected its 5" front suction hose to the hydrant across the street, leaving room for Tower Ladder 53 to position in front of the home and raise the aerial to the roof. Engine 238 personnel stretched 200' of 1 3/4" hose to the seat of the fire on the first floor. A second line was stretched to the basement but did not need to be operated during the incident. Car 2502 took the interior operations role and Car 2412 was designated the Safety Officer for the duration of the fire. The Valhalla FASTeam stood by on the scene as firefighters extinguished the fire, which started between the basement ceiling and first floor. Battalion 19 assisted with resource management at the command post. Con Ed Electric secured the power to the home while Con Ed Gas shut off the natural gas. Harrison EMS remained on the scene until the potential for injury to public safety personnel had ceased. The West Harrison Fire District remained protected with the assistance of Car 2393 and Engine 62 from the Port Chester Fire Department. North White Plains also stood by in their own quarters with Ladder 47 and Car 2322. The fire was placed under control at 3:09 PM and the mutual aid departments were released. Purchase and West Harrison units remained on scene to assist the Cause and Origin Team and Building Department. All units went back in service at 4:16 PM. Photo Source: Zach Oliva, Harrison Patch:
