On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, The Purchase Fire Department conducted their annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the fire house. Because of the threat of heavy weather, the event was held in the Engine Room. Father Chris delivered the Invocation, followed by an address by Mayor Dionisio.
In attendance were visiting chiefs, three active service members of United States Marine Corp. and Veterans from VFW 3047. The Marines and Veterans presented a Wreath together to pay tribute to those service members who perished. Department President Mark Paccica and Chief Sam Bornstein presented a Wreath to honor our Members who have passed.
Then Ex-Chief Ron Mignone announced the Roll Call of Deceased Members, punctuated by the ringing of a bell after each name was spoken. Those sounds have resonated through the generations in our Department’s 85 year history. Following the Roll Call of Deceased Members, the flag was lowered to half-mast by the Boy Scouts of Purchase Troop 1 under the supervision and guidance of the Marines. Taps was performed flawlessly by Sgt. at Arms John Paccica. The ceremony was followed by an amazing Dinner; thanks to our Kitchen Committee.
This cherished tradition of our Department gives each of us a brief opportunity to remember those Members who have passed and who contributed to the vibrancy of our Department today. We pray for the safety of our active service members and deeply acknowledge those who have given the ultimate sacrifice. May each of their memories be a blessing. |
