May 19, 2026

Earlier today at approximately 3:15 PM, the Purchase Fire Department, along with Port Chester Rescue 40, were dispatched to a reported motor vehicle fire on Interstate 287.

Shortly after the initial dispatch, 60 Control began receiving multiple additional calls reporting a van fully involved near the Interstate 684 interchange. Car 2412 arrived first on scene and confirmed a heavily involved van fire in the left lane, with fuel burning across the roadway. Due to the conditions, an additional engine company was requested from the West Harrison Fire Department.

Firefighters deployed a foam line to bring the fire under control and prevent further spread of the fuel fire. No injuries were reported. The incident was placed under control, and all fire units cleared the scene by 5:00 PM. The scene was then turned over to the New York State Police.

Units On-Scene:

Purchase: Car 2412, Engine 238, 240, 241.
Port Chester Car 2393, Rescue 40.
West Harrison: Cars 2501, 2502, Engine 265
Harrison Police, New York State Police, Hannigan’s Towing

1 & 1 Stand-By: Port Chester Engine 60 & Harrison TL-24
